Search Process

Connected Learning is thrilled to embark on the next phase of its journey with the search for a new CEO. This pivotal step marks a renewed commitment to our mission of fostering inclusive and innovative learning opportunities for all. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead with a new leader at the helm, who will not only embody our core values but also bring fresh perspectives and strategies to propel our organization forward. The prospect of finding a visionary leader who can amplify our impact and drive meaningful change in the educational landscape is both inspiring and energizing for the entire Connected Learning community.

About the Process

  1. Defining the Role and Expectations: The first step involves clearly defining the role of the CEO for Connected Learning. This includes outlining responsibilities, skills, experience required, and the strategic objectives they will be expected to achieve. It's crucial to align these expectations with the nonprofit's mission and vision. This job description is posted below.

  2. Formation of a Search Committee: Connected Learning formed a search committee, typically comprising board members and possibly other stakeholders. This committee is responsible for overseeing the entire search process. The Search committee consists of:

    1. Board President: Dr. Kristy Daniels-Jackson

    2. Board Member: Dr. Tara Sparks

    3. Board Member: Phillip Boyd

    4. Current CEO: Dr. Christopher McGee

  3. Initial Outreach and Networking: The search begins with an outreach phase, where the committee or search firm identifies potential candidates. This can involve networking within the nonprofit sector, leveraging contacts of board members, and reaching out to leaders in related fields. The committee may also publicly post the job listing on relevant platforms to attract a broader pool of candidates.

  4. Screening and Shortlisting Candidates: As applications and nominations come in, the committee screens candidates based on their alignment with the defined role and the organization’s needs. This phase narrows the pool to a shortlist of the most promising candidates.

  5. Interview and Evaluation Process: The shortlisted candidates are then interviewed. This process may involve multiple rounds of interviews, including with different stakeholders such as board members, key staff, and possibly major donors or partners of Connected Learning. The evaluation during these interviews focuses on leadership qualities, alignment with the nonprofit's values, and the ability to drive its mission forward.

  6. Reference Checks and Final Assessment: After the interviews, the committee conducts thorough reference checks for the top candidates. This step is crucial for gaining deeper insights into the candidates' past performance and leadership style.

  7. Selection and Offer: The committee makes a final decision and extends an offer to the chosen candidate. This step includes negotiating terms and ensuring that both the organization and the candidate have aligned expectations.

  8. Transition and Onboarding: Once the offer is accepted, there is a transition period where the new CEO is introduced to the organization, its staff, and its stakeholders. An effective onboarding process is vital for a smooth transition and to set the new leader up for success.
